About the Shariah Account

The Shariah account is a trading account for clients to trade Shariah-compliant securities listed on Bursa Malaysia.

Eligibility for a Shariah Account

Anyone above 18 years old can open a Shariah trading account.

List of Shariah-Compliant Securities

The updated list of Shariah-compliant securities is available on the Securities Commission website. The UTrade platform also indicates Shariah securities using the symbol °.

Buying Non-Shariah-Compliant Securities with a Shariah Account

Non-Shariah-compliant shares cannot be bought using a Shariah trading account; any such order will be rejected by the system.

Converting an Existing Account to a Shariah Account

An existing trading account can be converted to a Shariah trading account by submitting an account conversion form to a dealer representative. The form can be downloaded here.

Selling Non-Shariah Shares Using a Shariah Account

Non-Shariah counters held in the trading account can still be sold.
